Brother Derek pledged the Alpha Beta Omega Chapter at Old Dominion University during the Spring of 1992 with the Theta Pledge Class. While at Old Dominion, he served in numerous leadership capacities on the SGA, including chair of the Student Services and Human Relations Committees, and Executive Vice President. In Alpha Beta Omega Chapter, he served as Interchapter Communications Coordinator, Chapter Treasurer, and Voting Delegate to the 1994 National Convention in Dallas/Fort Worth, TX. At VCU, he discovered the Alpha Delta Iota Chapter there, where he served as Alumni/Corresponding Secretary and Chapter Treasurer, and as one of the Chapter Voting Delegates to the 2002 National Convention in New Orleans, LA, serving on the National Alumni Relations and Internal Volunteer Development Reference Committee. Derek continued to serve as the Lead Advisor to that reference committee at the 2004 National Convention in Denver, CO, and as an Advisor at the 2006 National Convention in Louisville, KY. Derek was involved as a member of the Section 83 Staff as the Communications Coordinator from 2000-2004, and as a member of the Region III Staff as Technology & Electronic Communications Coordinator from 2003-2004. Derek also serves as a member of the National Media & Technology Committee (2004-present), National Leadership Development Committee (2004-present), and National Service Committee (2005-present). He was also a member of the Bid Committee for the 2006 National Convention in Louisville, Kentucky, and served as an Advisor to the Delta Theta Chapter at the University of Louisville (2004-2005). Spring 2004 Pledge Class Namesake, Alpha Delta Iota Chapter; Second recipient of the Section 83 Distinguished Service Key (March, 2004); Alpha Delta Iota Chapter Distinguished Service Key (November, 2004); Three-time recipient of Alpha Delta Iota Chapter's Daniel K. Mai Chapter Weenie of the Year Award (1998-1999, 1999-2000, 2000-2001). Derek has been involved in the FIRST (For Inspiration in Robotics, Science and Technology) Robotics Competitions in the mid-Atlantic region, serving as game announcer and various other volunteer functions. Derek currently resides in Flagstaff, Arizona. |
